Read- August 2019 for The N.E.W.Ts (My E in Care of Magical Creatures), The Basically 24 Hour Readathon and The Magical All Nighter
- I have to say that Matt Haig is one of my all time favourite authors. I haven't read any of his adult novels yet but I've adored all of his middle grade novels. Haig manages to put such important topics into his books in the most subtle ways.

Class reading book. It's fun, and the kids are enjoying it but I'd say it's a little simple - I teach a fairly able year 4 class, and I wouldn't say it's particularly stretching them in terms of vocabulary and so on.

Matt Haig’s latest book for children is a joy to read. We follow the 11 year old protagonist Evie, as she overcomes challenges to discover the importance of being true to yourself and that being kind is a strength. It is a fast paced novel with some emotional twists and turns which will keep you gripped from start to finish. In the authors own words, this is a book suitable for age “8 to 88”.

This is truly a Haig book, in the best way.
It goes by pretty much the same formula of positive message with easy and accessible writing.
The message is simple and clear for all audiences but the writing is pretty basic, more so than in his other children's books.

That said, Evie is a wonderful little girl with the best Talent one could ever have, safe to say she has The Talent all children would want. I really wish we could all look at all animals and humans the way she does: she loves all animals no matter how different or deadly they are.

Evie is the best!
