This is the sort of book where you can't and you won't give anything away...it's priceless!

Memorable story about two women who do extraordinary things for each other. Characters written with charm and wit. My favorites? Little Bee and Yevette. Weh!

Better than a just light summer read. Some funny moments, some poignant, etc.

Want to give higher than 2 but can't do it. Loved the writing enough that I will give his other book and new book a chance?

Wanted to like it and some parts I enjoyed. Just not a fan.
challenging informative inspiring medium-paced

Hated it.

A poignant novel about a teenage Nigerian refugee and her experiences escaping from atrocities in her village and the influence she has on the lives on a London family. Written 10 years ago, I doubt little has changed for the refugee experience, and may be worse than ever. I blew through this in a day.

What a wonderful book - challenging and thought provoking.

The marketing ploy on the back of the book is a bit much, but, having read it many years ago, I was able to overlook it and let the story speak for itself. It is told, alternately , by Sarah, a English fashion magazine editor, and Little Bee, a 16 year old Nigerian refugee. They come together in England, having shared an horrific experience, and try to help each other move forward. The subject matter is difficult; the treatment of refugees, the plundering of Africa, the messy tangle of modern, Western lives and the darkness within, but somehow, it isn't a depressing read, but strangely beautiful at times, and thought provoking in an important way.
