This duo of short stories makes me happy that I have been reading more urban fantasy. The author’s fascination with mythology shines through in her writing. I am not as familiar with some of the Japanese mythological creatures, but within a few pages, I knew enough to enjoy the stories. The arc between the two short stories reminded me of Ray Bradbury’s “Green Town” and “Martian Chronicles”, in that the novels were built from a series of short stories. These two short stories stand on their own, but when read together they develop a longer arc. I look forward to reading more stories in this series.
