Reforged by Seth Haddon

While I loved the author's second book in this universe, Reborn, this one did not click with me at all. While the character dynamic was fun — I love a good king/knight & famous person/bodyguard story — the pacing of the overarching plot was too slow for me to really care. It's good to see that the author has definitely improved since, though. I look forward to his upcoming work.

Reforged has a nice premise and interesting characters, but it doesn't seem sure what it wants to be.

Most of the plot revolves around the political turmoil and coup around the new king, but the conclusion and main pov is focused on the romance, so I ended up unsatisfied on both ends.

The romance could've been awesome, but they didn't have as much time developing together for me to care that much. I was actually invested on the plot, but then the conclusion was so rushed it got me wondering if it wasn't a standalone after all (it is).

It was fun, but really not memorable.

Oof I hate giving this score. I really wanted to love this book. I was even more excited to see an audiobook version. I love high fantasy mm but this was a bit of a bore. Also how do you both fall asleep in the middle of the woods after an assassination attempt? Like at least sleep in shifts

A fun story I am interested to read the second book I think the world building was done well I didn't feel like it over explained concepts to the reader and left a lot of room to expand. I loved most the characters and felt everyone was very real. The motivations of everyone made since. Also the plot twist was crazy.
Would definitely suggest reading instead of listening to an audio book I enjoyed it more when I switched to print

Pretty solid read! Great book for a debut and if you love political plot driven books id definitely recommend it

ALRIGHT... did I think this needed a lot more editing in order to fix some plot holes or just other oddities? Yes, absolutely. Four people in line for the throne are wiped out and we just move forward with our day? Nah, that didn't make a ton of sense. I thought the idea to open on Balen's first day as Prime made sense and we would see a little "this investigation happened in the past" BUT it was pretty quick into the read when I realized that wasn't what happened.

THAT BEING SAID, DO I CARE? No, this was an amazing read! I loved the characters so much - this read like a fanfiction where we already know the characters so the author just jumped right into the action. There were very few times when I went "Why are Balen and Zavrius doing this?" because they were so well done. There were many times I thought that about side characters/overall plot points but I was in love with these two from the beginning

Overall, I will continue to read Seth Haddon and I do hope that future reads will have more logical plots. I don't expect I will put the books down even if they don't, however
