Kerri’s first book, I think her writings improved very much. I know if I was the intended age for this story I would be inthralled, but I just wasn’t sucked into the story because of the intermixing of historical and modern philosophies and practices. Also, I guessed the plot twist early on

Overall I enjoyed this book and found it entertaining.
The couple of things I didn’t like were Audrey Rose’s stance on religion, and the “girls can do whatever boys can do” aspect of the book. There nothing wrong with having a book with female empowerment but I feel like I’ve read so much of it recently I’m kinda over it. I wish we could just have a strong fmc without having to push the gender war.
With that being said it did like the story and the air of mystery (even if I guessed who Jack was pretty early). I also like Thomas and how straightforward his is.
As always I’m so much worse at talking about what I liked in a story than what I didn’t like, so you’ll just have to take my word for it😂
I think this would be a good book for people who like historical fiction and true crime podcasts.

Don't judge a book by its cover, they say. Well if that that was the case I'm afraid it would have been 0.5 stars (I don't like it at all sorry), BUT fortunately I picked this up anyway and didn't regret it.
Still, I was very undecided about the final rating, which I'd say is in between 3 and 3.5.
I initially found it a bit slow and boring, but then some chapters really chilled my bones and had my heart racing in fear of what would happen.
On one hand I found the overall plot very predictable (maybe I'm biased because I've read/seen too much of this kind of stuff?), on the other I loved the characters. Audrey Rose impersonates my favorite kind of heroine. But actually, if you think about it, she "stalks" a lot but accomplishes very little in the end.
I din't love the writing style, but I did love the dark atmosphere that Maniscalco created.

A great YA read. Loved the historic atmosphere and the subplot of romance! The twists were a bit predictable, but the storyline was still enjoyable.
