The typos in the ebook editions (obviously introduced when the publisher scanned a paper copy and then didn't proofread the text well enough) are really distracting.

This was another excellent story. A great mystery which provided a couple of great twists and enough red herrings to feed me for my whole life :P
But at the end, when the truth is finally unveiled I didn't felt cheated. It all made sense and it felt real and satisfying.

We also have the perfect mix between the mystery and Doug and Dave's relationship. The way in wich they both are haunted by the ghosts of their past and how this create problems is true to life. I also loved how Dave reacts to this situation and does his best to keep the relationship going. I love that he is not perfect, but utterly human.

I'm already listening to the third book :)

And you can taste the sea air in this one; you can smell the old books. One hell of a writer.

A man is found dead on the beach. The coroner claims it was an accidental death, but Dave Brandstetter believes otherwise. Dave is also still dealing with the grief of losing his longtime partner and trying to begin a new relationship with a man tragically met at the end of his previous case. Is it possible to move forward when so much lies behind you?

'Death Claims' continues to shade in the complexity of Dave's character and provides rich description of California in the early 1970s worthy of golden era noir writing. The mystery was excellently plotted, but it was the various glimpses into a diverse and interesting queer subculure that truly makes the book shine.

A nice sequel to the first one, still short and sweet, I got hooked pretty much early on. The mystery solving part was solid, lots of clues and suspects, lots to unpack, though I found the plot choppy at times. Glad that the series continue to be gay as hell and we got more development on Dave's personal life as well, but I confess I don't really like his romantic side plot with the new interest Doug. I don't know why but that man gave me the ick, their relationship seemed kind of unhealthy for me at the moment :(
Overall really enjoy this one, will continue on!
