I have had one favorite book for the last 9 years. This easily replaced it. I cried and cried. My heart was broken, but it gave me a new hope and new convictions. I can not recommend this book enough. My life is forever changed.

A well-written recounting of the career of a lawyer fighting for condemned prisoners in the South. Somehow it was a bit of a page-turner despite its focus on the slow wheels of the American justice/appeals system.

Our criminal justice system is so messed up. I'm very glad that there are people like this who are trying to fix it.

An important read that conveys the injustices of American incarceration very well. However I find legal discussion very hard to get through, so I was a little disconnected from the narrative at times due to that. It also feels like there’s maybe something missing… idk what though, will perhaps update later when I think about it more

This should be required reading. Bryan Stevenson is a hero, whether he would agree with that assessment or not. This book made me feel angry, saddened, and joyful all at the same time. I was both disheartened and, more importantly, hopeful. Stevenson has managed to balance the delivery of solemn facts and assessment of the state of our criminal justice system while weaving in the emotional and hopeful story of one of his most famous cases.

Thank you, Bryan Stevenson, for all you have done and for what you have yet to do.

Very good insight into USA's justice system and stories from death row.
