WOWWWW this book blew me away. I learned a lot and it is hard to read but I think it’s necessary. Very eye opening.
If there were a sixth star, I would give it. This is a beautifully written book by an American hero. I'd give it five stars if it were fiction. Unfortunately it's not.
"...We have to reform a system of criminal justice that continues to treat people better if they are rich and guilty than if they are poor and innocent."
The best book I read this year. I should have read it sooner. A perfect balance of logos, ethos and pathos.
Very insightful.
An eye-opening look into the injustices that people of color, women, the poor, children, and those who are intellectually disabled have faced and continue to face in the world of criminal Justice.
4 stars simply because the format was hard for me to get into, so I read at a slower pace.

There are not enough words to describe how much this book has impacted me. I have studied the criminal justice system and many of the things that Mr. Stevenson wrote about I already knew but there was still a lot that I didn’t. Reading the way that the system has harmed so many people is heartbreaking. The amount of compassion that Mr. Stevenson has for his clients is astounding. I feel like this is required reading for everyone.

Although the book featured the case of Walter McMillan, many stories were told throughout the book. Within the stories were numerous facts related to the ineffectiveness, inefficiencies, and injustices of our judicial system.
Bryan Stevenson, a brilliant and influential attorney, founded the Equal Justice Initiative to defend those whom society has thrown away out of fear and hatred.
P. 289 - We all share the condition of brokenness even if your brokenness is not equivalent....but our shared brokenness connected us.
I finished the book wondering how I can get involved. Am I brave enough to teach in the prison system?
