Should be required reading for every single American.

I struggled with the audio version and found the book format to be much more impactful.

This is an amazingly powerful book. It is heartbreaking, provoking, angering...in essence, an emotional roller coaster, but a necessary one. This should be required reading for all people. While some may be cold enough to never consider changing their views or opinions, for others it is an opportunity to reassess your thinking, consider your own humanity, and reflect on how you can contribute to making this world a much better place (as Bryan Stevenson's career clearly has made a significant contribution--it's a tough act to follow, but one we should all aspire to).

Non fiction like this is tough to read because it's true. And it is depressing to think about all the persons who are wrongly incarcerated in this country and often unjust executed. It's unspeakable. But brave men and women like Bryan Stevenson are leading the charge to change the laws and show mercy to the vulnerable and the oppressed. He did the hard work. Now we have to face the tough truths and do our part. Read this book and then support the Equal Justice Initiative.

This book helped me see my brokenness

"There is a strength, a power even, in understanding brokenness, because embracing our brokenness creates a need and desire for mercy, and perhaps a corresponding need to show mercy. When you experience mercy, you learn things that are hard to learn otherwise. You see things you can't otherwise see; you hear things you can't otherwise hear. You begin to recognize the humanity that resides in each of us."

Required reading.

I could not put this book down. I’ve been trying to find ones like it.
