It took me a long time to finish this book because I really did not like it very much. For me, it was just ok. I have never really enjoyed books that explore things in a skewed reality, philosophizing about life and other things. This novel read far too much like teenage angst, sans teens. The character tries to be an everyman and an insider simultaneously; Kirn just can't make it work. Add to all that the fact that our air culture changed irrevocably after 9/11 and this book is just out of any possibly relevant context; in essence obsolete. Also, Kirn's writing style is very distracting, with overuse of the long dash and changing in and out of flashbacks from one paragraph to the next. As a result, the story is carved and cut in such a way as to render it incomprehensible. By the end, I was completely lost. I'm glad to be done with it and I think this might be one of the rare occasions the movie is better than the book. At least the movie has George Clooney and Vera Farmiga, actors I can respect. Kirn as a writer, not so much.
very different from the movie, but a good book anyway.
- Estoy defraudando a mucha gente- dice Julie
-No te preocupes. Seguirán allí cuando vuelvas.
-Eso no es siempre verdad.
-En Minnesota sí.
No recomiendo el libro. Es demasiado aburrido.

Although there's not any likeable characters, I somehow wound up liking this book. It took a little while to get into, but it definitely gets better as it goes along. The twist ending told over half a page didn't feel earned. I think it's ultimately hampered by the need to be a Big Important Book with Ideas and Criticisms of corporate America.
Fun to read. I need to read it again a second time to better understand it, but it was still good. Surprisingly likable protagonist.
Did not enjoy this as much as I had hoped. I felt it was a rare instance of a film being better than the book. Main character was not sympathetic and not interesting enough to make up for it. Didn't really get involved in this but was an easy read and it was easy to keep going to see if it got any better. Ultimately i wouldn't recommend it as I don't feel that it realy justifies the time.
