i found the first 20-25% of the book to be very boring, but from the tail end of the first of the pilgrim’s story and onwards the rest of the book was much better. there are a lot of good ideas on display here and the threads of the several stories are weaved together very pleasantly. i was disappointed to find that there is no satisfying ending included here. i’m unsure whether i’ll continue reading the rest of the cantos; three more books is quite a commitment.
I thought dresden files 1 is the worst book ive ever read but storm front is a 5 star compared to this pile of horse shit. Oh my god its so bad i cant fully explain how angry this shit makes me. Who allowed this to get published? Writing sucks, characters are SO FUCKING BAD, the representation of women is laughable even for its time of publication it really just goes overboard with the misogyny. I mean who writes “beauty too perfect to believe: precisely the sort that even the most timid male dreams of violating” and thinks OH YEH I ATE WITH THAT ONE!!
Chapters are long and fucking boring
I fucking hate this

but the priests story was an incredible way to start the book. but yeah ending felt slightly unrewarding

Hyperion started off very strong. Simmons has a way of leading you to a certain conclusion then turning you upside down with a sentence or two. It's thrilling and intense. There were a couple stories that left me wanting more but not in a good way. My biggest complaint is that this isn't a complete story. This 500 page book is really just the first half of a story. I just wish I knew from the beginning that I was making a 1000 page commitment.
