This is a tarot deck and accompanying guide book. I’m adding it here because the guidebook is amazing. It almost seems gimmicky because the author was in the film The Craft—but she knows her stuff. The deck is awesome too but the book is really special.

Tarot instruction mixed with an autobiography. It’s nice to learn about how tarot effected this person’s life and how she learned the cards by association with her own life experiences. Tarot is not just cards to the author they are cherished friends.

A cool new source for the Tarot. Some good insights and reminders of why I like this practice.

I found the major arcana section most interesting as Rachel included personal stories for each card. Yes, they were all Hollywood-centric stories but at least it created a point of view and how one might reinterpret the card symbols to modern life. It was a bit like getting a biography told through the tarot.

The minor arcana was more traditional meanings and descriptions and often the text felt copied and pasted — I.e. each ace started out with the exact same sentence for all four suits. It’s true, aces are about beginnings but the text could have used a little editing to make it feel less like “didn’t I just read this page?”

You know me and my love for uniquely told memoirs, well this one takes the cake in terms of uniqueness: a deck of tarot cards where each card is paired with a related story from Rachel True’s life. So creative! Plus the cards are beautiful.

I also really enjoyed getting to virtually meet Rachel and hear about this project through Well Read Black Girl.

I'm just learning tarot, and I tried using a few other decks before this one. This one was the one that made it all click. The accompanying guide book was so helpful! The way the author explained the meanings and the keywords she assigned each card really helped them stick in my mind. The symbolism of the artwork was also easy to decipher. I highly recommend this deck for beginners.

Gorgeous art, informative guidebook for beginners, but the personal essays that tie into each card of the Major Arcana were my favourite part.

Lovely tarot deck! Loved the deck and Rachel’s stories from her own life. Perfect for beginners!
