Nope. Sorry all. Second time around and I still can't finish this book. I just don't care enough. 2 stars. It gains an extra 1 because I can tell it'd be enjoyable to fantasy fans.

The complete lack a plot really ruined what could have been a fabulous book! I loved the writing style and the premise was really good, the characters well written, but there was just no plot...it just went no where!

If you counted how many times the author talked about this aliens breasts it would probably amount to 1/3 of the book. There was sexual assault in the novel. Overall I don’t think there was any great storytelling. I would say it didn’t get interesting until 3/4 of the way through the book. Even then the female perspective here was just ridiculous and completely detached.

Ho barato.

I am a huge fan of the horror movie Under the Skin. It's slow-paced, voyeuristic dread is the kind of creepy that stayed with me for days after watching it. Approaching the book with my love of the movie in mind almost made reading it much less enjoyable. It's so easy to spoil the entire plot of Under the Skin so the enjoyment of the mystery that's drip-fed to the reader is lost on me in the beginning of the story. This does change after about 1/3 of the book as it takes a vastly different turn then the film and establishes different themes. Overall I really enjoyed this.

This was an odd, but also thought-provoking book. We follow our main character Isserley, who you realize off the bat may be involved with some shady dealings. You don't know what they are off the bat, but as we follow her day to day life, bit by bit, we unravel more about her and her job.
This is a pretty slow moving book that I *think* I liked (I'm not actually sure how I feel about it yet) - however, I can appreciate it for what it is and the overarching themes. I do think it was best to go into this one without knowing anything about it, as you try to figure out what all is happening each time Isserley gives you a bit of a glimpse into her life.
