The premise of the book is very interesting and unique. Ultimately, the story takes forever to answer the question, or reason for the Memory Police. I imagine the dialogue, relationships and prose get somewhat lost in translation (original is in Japanese)... but even keeping this in mind, I just could not get into the story of feel anything for the characters. By the time a shocking development came near the end, I was not surprised and just wanted to be done with the book.

Interesting premise- disappointing execution.

I really enjoyed some aspects of this. I was captivated in the beginning by this strange world, and Ogawa creates a great atmosphere with her writing. However, I was confused by the logic behind the memories disappearing and I wanted more answers than what we got. There was very little plot line, which I normally am ok with, but with it didn't work for me with this kind of story.

As I said before, I really liked the atmosphere and themes explored in this story. So, I am excited to check out more from this author. I'm just sad this didn't work for me.
