A homeless guy with a dog is framed for a murder. Andy connects a lot more murders to the real killers and the guy calling the shots. So Andy is doing the police’s job and finding the guilty. I could swear one of the characters was killed off a few books ago- Russo; but what do I know? An obvious suspect is cleared at the very end. I should have seen it coming. Frame jobs like nested dolls in this one. No Russians but a Serbian.

I listened to this as an audiobook and it was delightful as usual. I especially liked the premise of this one, the story about helping a homeless man was great. Despite following a pretty consistent formula, this series hasn't gotten old and in fact seems to keep getting better. I didn't like this entry quite as much as Rescued though. It felt like the mystery deviated more than usual from the standard plot which was nice, but it also felt a bit convoluted. Probably related mostly to listening on audiobook instead of reading a physical copy, but I had some trouble keeping track of character names and following what was happening when it was describing things from the perspective of the bad guys.

Feeling the spirit of the season Andy Carpenter gives a homeless man money and a Pet store gift card for his Labrador retriever pup. The next day he sees the same man on tv talking about being attacked and his dog fought off the attacker. The dog is taken in to be quarantined for rabies check. Andy decides to help the veteran, and lets him stay in his garage apartment.

However when the news reports get out the cops swarm the apartment and take him into custody for a murder where his DNA was found on the scene.

Taken into customer the veteran Dan is struggling, he wants the trial to start as soon as possible. Suffering from PTSD and claustrophobia he can't take being in a jail cell.

Andy and his team assemble and try to piece together why his DNA would be on the scene. Being a former Green Beret the form of death is similar to his training in hand to hand combat.

With a mobster and a sniper also in the mix it is a race for Andy to figure out just what happened just in time to celebrate the holidays!

Another wonderful book in the series with Andy and his pups!

Our family has recently taken to the Icelandic tradition of gifting books to each other on Christmas Eve, and this book was what I received based on my request for a Holiday themed mystery released in 2018. Fully expected to get something in the traditional English country cozy tradition so this David Rosenfelt title was a surprise, and a very pleasant surprise it turned out to be. DTH proved a quick compulsive read thanks to short chapters, tight plot pacing, and a satisfying ending with a proper touch of sentiment for the season that steered clear of sugary overkill. Pretty certain that I would not have chosen this book on initial examination, so the fact that I enjoyed it enough to strongly consider tackling other books in the Andy Carpenter series means I received a perfect gift!

The story is interspersed with third-person accounts of a series of sniper attacks. It would appear that this and Andy's case have no connection. Until the witty lawyer connects the dots. The author does a great job in leading readers to think that one particular character is behind it all, only to be surprised in the end.

His humor is everywhere in the book. Another thing I like about it is that there's no gory stuff and it's definitely not R-rated either. Violence is kept to the minimum.

It's fun to read and very entertaining. Five-star!
