Book 1 in the Hanneford prep series by J. Bree and should be read in order.

Plot:
Eclipse, aka Lips, is the new scholarship student at Hanneford Prep. She comes from the other side of the tracks and these rich kids want her gone.  Ash, Harley, and Blaise couldn't detest her more. And Ash's twin sister, Avery, is determined to make her life miserable. But they don't know Lips is a bada$$ in her own right and she's not about to take this lying down.

Writing:
I know this is a why choose but I will state from the top that there is no spice for the FMC (shocker, I know) but I still really enjoyed the book! It's a fast read so I almost appreciate that the author didn't rush the why-choose elements. Book 1 really focuses on the FMC and the animosity between the other main characters.

Tropes: prep-school, bully, opposites side of the track

the only reason i’m giving this book a 2-star rating is because i loved the fact that it’s written in single pov. other than that, i’ve got nothing. this book was just awful to read.

i don’t know to really explain how i feel. the female main character was a contradiction. it’s like we know she was strong but at the same time she was really weak.

i didn’t understand her dynamic with her boys at all. i didn’t see what it was that she saw in them. it’s not like they were nice to her—they were not. they were horrible people who did and said so many hurtful things to her. and while she did stand up for herself some, she always ended up being the loser.

the worst part is that even when the boys were saying awful things to her, all she could think about was how hot and horny she was for them. it was pathetic. it would be different if the author had given us reasons to like them but there was nothing likeable about them at all! they were allegedly hot and rich. that’s all there was to them.

another two things that that bothered me about fmc was her relationship with matteo. she went from wanting his attention, to not wanting his attention to wanting his attention. i was so confused. and second, apparently the heroine was only fifteen years old?! she was a whole ass child!

which could explain her immaturity. but also made her bit about being the wolf very very cringey.

As an RH, this series is shaping up to be more of a slow burn. The first book is heavy on bullying with very little romance payoff and no spice, but it’s an interesting world and addictive read. Most likely will continue.
