Cute book. Definitely middle grade or late elementary. In addition to the things most kids will get - protagonist training, an antagonist school called Fester, book marks and dog ears - I liked the author’s winks at adults: Mr. Darcy teaches romantic looks; Dr. Romeo Montague starts his class with poison in the sepulchre; even Deus ex Machina made me chuckle. The plot moves along pretty well and for once the ending does NOT involve the female protagonist getting a boyfriend. Can imagine some kids really enjoying this.

I loved the cleverness of this story! Indira is an aspiring protagonist. All she needs is an author to place her in a story. But, things don't always go to plan and Indira's journey takes her on a much bigger quest than anticipated. It's not just her story that's at stake. Suddenly, all of Fable is in trouble and no one may be getting a story ever again.

Like the little elves that knit away in the night that happen to be clothes you find sitting on your bed in the morning, @reintgen has created a beautifully weaved fable made up entirely of the side characters that could become your favorite hero’s in new books. Saving Fable is a great read not only for the audience it was created for: kids, but also for anyone with a childlike heart. This coming from me and I’m only halfway finished reading!

Mr. Reintgen’s creativity has gone beyond what I imagined Saving Fable would be about and skyrocketed into the ether farther than Emmett ever traveled in Nyxia. Mr. Reintgen has stolen my heart, his young reader's hearts and replaced it with the genuine courage of a little girl named Indira Story. She is definitely endearing! I found myself in awe of his talent and the way his mind works. I gawked audibly in so many places just on the genius of his writing style in this book. Seriously there are so many wonderful tidbits from books you’ve read, writing processes and pure thrilling, mysterious entertainment revolving around the writing process you seem to forget you aren’t one of the side characters.

#savingfable came out on September 17, 2019. @netgalley thank you for allowing me the honor to read Saving Fable in lieu of my honest review. Scott is one of my favorite new authors!!

Indira has waited and waited to be a chosen as a character for a story. So, when she is selected to attend a renowned school in Fable to train to be a character, she is overjoyed. But, when her audition does not go as she plans, she lands on the side-character track and grows determined to prove to her teachers that she deserves another shot at leading a story. But as her own feelings of being sabotaged grow, Indira sees that Fable seems to be in danger. Can she, a mere side-character-in-training, save herself and her beloved city?

Clever, fun, refreshing, creative, and so, so, so fun! I loved every page of this wonderful story. What a delightful way to see how bullies can be taken down by even the meekest of characters (or humans). I really do hope this is indeed a start of a series (as Goodreads shows in the series notation area). Indira may have reached her resolution but I can see oh-so-many more stories waiting to be told in Fable!

This book is absolutely delightful. The characters are charming, the story is fantastic, and the fourth-wall breaking of the narrator gives the story a unique look compared with other middle-grade novels.
