Originally written in Arabic by Adania Shibli in 2017, its award ceremony was canceled by the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2023, because of the ongoing genocide being carried out by Israel in Palestine. This decision was made by a German literary association šš¼š.
One word: groundbreaking!!! šš I canāt even describe it š„¹ this book only has two parts, and as soon as you get into part two, itās just pure tension and nothing else! Until the ending thatā¦ š«Øš«Ø oh well š
Honestly, reading this made me feel so much more educated about āwhatā has been happeningānot just whatās happening now, but everything that has happened up to this point (from the Nakba to the present). Itās just heartbreaking. I need a moment to process alias bengong sejenak š
A haunting and elucidative read. This is a novella split into two parts - the first describes the rape and murder of a 12 year old Palestinian-Bedouin girl in 1949; the second follows a modern-day woman obsessed with uncovering the true nature of this crime. Throughout the book, seemingly trivial details become chilling reminders of the horrifying offense, and of Israelās inhumane occupation of Palestine.
