This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. I've read a previous book of his called exit west a long time ago. As soon as I read the first few pages of this book i went back into my account and looked up exit west and it was by the same author. Thats how distinctive his voice is. The reluctant fundamentalist is a story about a Pakistani immigrant who to America to study at Princeton. After he graduates he gets a job at one of the most prestigious firms on wall street. He is epitome of an American success story. But as life goes on events occur which sends his life down a dark spiral. What is amazing about this book is the uncertainty of it. I can't say certain things as to not spoil the book but the feeling that you get while you read is unlike any other. He writes the side of the muslims and how they perceive the world with a believable character. You see America and the world through a different set of eyes and I think Hamid's perspective is an important one to see.

This book does a good job at encapsulating the love/hate relationship that most of the rest of the world has for the U.S.

Changez, a Pakistani on the road to success after attending Princeton, is forced to rethink his life and priorities after two occurrences: falling in love with an American girl and 9/11.

The build up of tension in this short novel is so well done. Once you start reading you really don't want to put it down. And what actually does happen at the end......?
