Such a sweet heartwarming book. May have shed a few tears at the end...

“But if anyone had asked, he would have told them that he never lived before he met her. And not after either.”

3.5 stars. I will always be too soft for old people’s stories. Ove is the most devoted husband I’ve ever come across in a book, and I love that despite his brusque and cold exterior, the man’s all-encompassing love for his wife never changes. I mostly stayed for the development of their love story rather than narrative that ran alongside it. Overall, I expected something toward the end— and it would have changed my rating to 4 stars. Nevertheless, a heartwarming read about devotion, principles, and unlikely friendships.

Bachmann reaches inside of your soul to grab the parts that relate to a random old man. I recommend reading without knowing anything about the book.

This book is actually really good. If I was in the right headspace, I could see this being a 5 star read for me. For now, it goes in the DNF pile until I’m depressed enough to read this.

A solid 4.5 really…

I don’t know how Backman did this.. but I got so connected with Ove. I cried at the end. I got teary through out when he would talk about Sonja…

Oh such a wonderful book though.

Read for book club. Easy read. At times funny. Others enjoyed this "heartwarming" read immensely but the "grumpy man with a heart of gold" narrative didn't work for me.

Oh my god. Wow. I absolutely adored this book and Ove. My emotions widely varied when reading this story and I can’t begin to explain how it made me feel. An absolute must-read.
