The Upside of Falling Down was definitely a page turner. I couldn't sleep one night so I stayed up late reading this book. I kept telling myself: one more chapter! But I just couldn't put the book down! Though it was a quick read, it read like an adult book in my opinion even though it is a YA novel. The typical YA romance was there, but because of the secrets and Jane/Clementine's amnesia the novel was much more than a simple romance or coming of age story.

Started out pretty strong, but started falling fast. If I was attached to the romance the twists may have been more worth it, but as they stand I could see them and was disappointed.

3.5 stars - Sweet, easy read. Not anything special, but I love the amnesia trope. Clementine woke up with amnesia after a plane crash where she was the only survivor in Ireland - Rather than trying to go back to her old life and work on regaining her memories she runs away with someone she met at the hospital, Kieran. She becomes Jane and tries to find herself.

It's hard to put myself in the headspace of an 18 year old that went through such trauma as surviving a plane crash... but I feel like it was hard to believe. It lost a lot of believability because of the selfishness of not thinking about the people already in Clementine's life (like her FATHER.)

Twists were cute but semi-expected with the way everything was set up.

I received a free eARC copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

I was raised in the Buckeye state, so whenever I hear about a book that takes place in Ohio, or where the main characters are from Ohio, I'm all over it. Cause let's be real here, hardly any books take place in Ohio. There's really nothing there, and it's pretty boring. I mean, Cedar Point is awesome, and there's the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and the Football Hall of Fame in Canton, but otherwise yeah...not much to see. The MC of this book is from Cleveland, but she travels to Ireland (which is basically my dream destination), so I was all over this book when I saw it on Netgalley.

I gotta say though, other than the setting of the book (and Kieran, obviously), I wasn't a huge fan. I understand the trials that Jane aka Clementine went though, and that it gives her a bit of leniency in her actions. But I just couldn't get past her personality. It got under my skin, and I wasn't able to connect with her at all.

The opening was a bit confusing as well. I'm not sure if this was on purpose to give us a sense of what Clementine was going through, or if it was just confusing. We are introduced to a Stephen, but there is no background. He just kind of pops up and hangs out for a while. We find out who he is later, but by then I had already written him off. There also wasn't a lot of clarity between how much time passed between the plane crash and the first chapter.
SpoilerI had assumed it was a few weeks, cause in a plane crash where everyone but Clementine dies, I figured she would have way more injuries than just amnesia. But nope, it was 2 days

Overall, I thought there was a lot of potential. It just didn't hit the jackpot for me.

Very sweet easy quick read. Did not expect what happened at the end and enjoyed that immensely.

I listened to this book in one sitting. I stayed up late because I couldn’t stop. Man oh man. Cute closed-door romance with some mild swearing (just a few infrequent f-words). I was drawn to this book since it takes place in Ireland. It was super fun reading about locations that I just saw a few months ago.
