I. Loved. This. Book. It was weird and epic and honestly the flopped movie version made it so much better. 😂

I don't understand the hype? I found it too shallow and broad with superfluous characters.
This book was a great read, however it was confusing from the start gaining clarity toward the end.

“Three quick breaths triggered the responses: he fell into the floating awareness... focusing the consciousness... aortal dilation... avoiding the unfocused mechanism of consciousness... to be conscious by choice... blood enriched and swift-flooding the overload regions... one does not obtain food-safety freedom by instinct alone... animal consciousness does not extend beyond the given moment nor into the idea that its victims may become extinct... the animal destroys and does not produce... animal pleasures remain close to sensation levels and avoid the perceptual... the human requires a background grid through which to see his universe... focused consciousness by choice, this forms your grid... bodily integrity follows nerve-blood flow according to the deepest awareness of cell needs... all things/cells/beings are impermanent... strive for flow-permanence within...”
“These things are so ancient within us,” Paul said, “that they’re ground into each separate cell of our bodies. We’re shaped by such forces. You can say to yourself, ‘Yes, I see how such a thing may be.’ But when you look inward and confront the raw force of your own life unshielded, you see your peril. You see that this could overwhelm you. The greatest peril to the Giver is the force that takes. The greatest peril to the Taker is the force that gives. It’s as easy to be overwhelmed by giving as by taking.”
“Then, as his planet killed him, it occurred to Kynes that his father and all the other scientists were wrong, that the most persistent principles of the universe were accident and error.”

from genesis of dune essay by herbert:
It is demonstrable that power structures tend to attract people who want
power for the sake of power and that a significant proportion of such people
are imbalanced-in a word, insane.
I now believe that evolution, or deevolution, never ends short of death, that no society has ever achieved an absolute pinnacle, that all humans are not created equal. In fact, I believe attempts to create some abstract equalization create a morass of injustices that rebound on the equalizers. Equal justice and equal opportunity are ideals we should seek, but we should recognize that humans administer the ideals and that humans do not have equal ability.

There are no words to say just how much I enjoyed this book. Dune is a true masterpiece. Usually when I hear that something is some kind of masterpiece I am let down once I dive in, but not here. I was even told that the beginning of this book could be rough, but I was hooked right away. I found that I found intrigue in the early story rather than confusion as I had been told.
This is the kind of book I was I could forget all about so I could read it for the first time again.
