I feel like this was written by an alien who doesn't actually understand humans and whose only point of reference was reading other shitty misery porn short story collections that it ended up trying to copy without ever fully comprehending them.

Really wish I hadn’t gotten to one of the stories (UGH), but good nonetheless.

An interesting graphic novel full of short stories of everyday darkness and melancholy. The book is a translation of Tastumi's stories originally published in the 70's.
Completely worth reading.

Not for me and probably just because I'm not familiar with the genre. The short stories are darker, exploring the less welcoming side of human nature. But there were a few time where I just didn't understand the last page and had to go back. Still not completely clear on what happened in a couple.

Yeeesh.
This was 100% not for me.
I will keep this short because I don't actually have that much to say. There's bestiality.
So, you know, there's that.
Otherwise it's depressing and often horrible and yeah.

I'm having a shitty day thanks to this book.
Don't let the simple art style deceive you into thinking this is a simple book. Don't let the slightly disturbing title trick you into thinking this is a slightly disturbing book. This damn thing hits hard in places you never knew you could feel pain.
This is a collection of short stories in manga form from the 1970's. This book also has a scene I can't believe any editor and publisher could ever approve. It wasn't graphic and I think that's the problem. The climax was left to the readers imagination and my mind filled in the blanks with images I want to forget. Let's leave it at that to keep this spoiler free.
This is a sad book. I recommend this to people who enjoy reading books that make them sad and then being sad.

I understand that it was during the 70s but I just think the art was rather too simple and each stories were half finished just because it's the sake of story collection. I just think each stories had potential to be good if the author tried!

The story material is very depressing and involves many characters of self loathing. I did engoy his story telling, but this is definately not uplifting material.

This is my first time coming across gekiga, which Tatsumi describes as a "darker, more realistic style of cartooning." A similar style to Junji Itou's collections, although much more disturbing to say least.

mostly that second star is for the illustration style. creepy, dark and certainly on the outside of societal norms - it wasn't for me.
