This one started slower than the first book, but in the end I think I liked it better. There was a twist in the first one I didn't care for. Thankfully nothing like that was in this one. I really enjoyed the dual timeline mystery in this one, and some other character elements. If there are more of these in the future, I'll definitely check them out!

Overall I did enjoy the book. I like the characters and the simple, yet positive attitude of the main character (even if it is unrealistic).

The return of Molly the maid in a new mystery about the death of a famous novelist.

This one was so cute, and I really enjoyed the audio production! Molly is such a fun character and I enjoyed getting to see more of a story, as well as the flashbacks to her childhood with her Gran. I hope this series continues, as I think the ending of this book set up some potentially fun directions for Molly’s life to take!

In terms of the plot itself, this is more a cozy mystery style book than a thriller, and I think expecting that going in definitely helped me to enjoy it more. I wasn’t particularly shocked by any of the reveals, but it was fun to see it all play out, regardless!

CW: Death/murder; sexual assault

I loved The Maid, and I couldn't be happier with how this went as a follow up. More of the same Molly, but with a chance for her to learn how valuable she is on her own as well as with her found family.

The dual timeline is perfect for giving us a glimpse into Molly's history, and for much more of her gran who I adore. It ties in beautifully with the present day and there are loads of little connections to discover along the way. My favourite thing about Molly is that she is so thoughtful, sweet and kind, and then has the occasional unhinged creepy impulse (which she doesn't act on but which I love).

The central murder mystery is a really fun one to unravel and I like how it ties up at the end, for so many of the characters. I suspected (or hoped for) a couple of revelations but was still delighted by them. And there's a mystery I'm pondering that I think will lead to more books from Molly. A fantastic cosy crime read!
