I don't own The Rise and Fall of the Kate Empire yet so here we are at book #5 of this series! After a few weaker books, this one was actually really good. The first story walks us through Picture Day at Hillridge Junior High and has some genuinely funny moments and thoughts that aren't showcased as effectively in the TV show. We get a lot of Lizzie's thoughts this time around and that's precisely why I read these - more insight into her mind. The second story was far, far weaker and weirdly enough, I actually enjoyed Matt's little side story better than the main one - which never happens and says a lot about the main plot. Plus, I don't know if I believe Miranda, even if Lizzie does? The resolution of their conflict felt rushed and vague, it needed a few more pages. Still, the first story definitely carries the book and makes this one worth it if you're a big fan of Lizzie McGuire.
