3.5 stars. Strangely, this is basically a fun novel about grief.

A funny and enjoyable book! I really loved Patrick’s interactions with the kids, the way he talked to them like adults with all these big words and the way they would respond. And a satisfying emotional journey as well.

Wow. Ok. So. I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting when I picked up this book, but it was not that. I mean I was looking for some lighthearted fun with some gay jokes and some kid jokes and sort of a joke. Instead I got well developed characters going through some shit, with deep character growth, two whole grief plots, an addiction subplot, and some fun with gay jokes and kid jokes. This book really may become one of the highlights of my year as far as reading goes. It was absolutely brilliant.
