Hyper-detailed art of a futuristic bloodbath caused by an android with identity and existence issues. The large page format means there's always something more to discover on the page. The story wasn't bad, with some interesting side characters and settings that were hinted at.

This was stupid. The dialogue was pointless. It was just violent for the sake of being violent. The story barely made any sense, and when it finally came together towards the end, nothing in the story actually mattered, because nothing actually changed.

There's not a lot to Miller's story set in a bleak nightmare of a world. Ten tons of insane action don't support the thin central idea very well. But Geof Darrow's astonishing artwork overcomes all of that.

This is going to sound like a really strange complaint, but I struggled a bit with how detailed the artwork was. Geof Darrow has done some wonderfully intricate artwork here and I just think it didn't translate to such a small format. I found some of the scenes really hard to process everything that was going on, as it was just too small, considering how much was happening in it. I found that the pages with only one shot on or much less detail were much more enjoyable. My only other complaint about the art is I felt there was a phenomenal amount of unnecessarily graphic and sexualised content. I'm not a prude, by any means, I just felt a lot of it really didn't need to be there.
That being said, I really liked the colour palette, it was very nice to look at
Story wise, I thought it was interesting and dark in an excellent way. There was also a couple of properly 'laugh out loud' moments, particularly the "I thought I was a normal guy!" scene, that was possibly my favourite page.
I think my only complaint about the story is that I felt it ended far too quickly, there definitely could have been a few more pages without compromising the quality, in fact I think I'd have preferred it.
All in all, not my favourite Frank Miller, I wouldn't recommend it as an introduction to him, but still pretty good.
