I didn't like the first half. Too much talking...it seems like it was more a script for a TV show (reminded me of Gilmore girls too much with the non-stop talking). Maybe a high-schooler would enjoy it more than I did.

This was an interesting take on a classic theme.
The re-enactment of the play Little women by a family every summer and the teen daughters in modern times, is the main theme of this book. It’s an okay theme, but the snipping, bickering and insulting of one another really was the main theme and not uplifting at all. I feel true fan-fiction would be more positive and a happier read overall!
Thanks to Net Galley for the advanced copy .

Easy, quick read, but what I loved most were the characters. It's not a retelling of Little Women, but enough similarities are drawn between the characters that it's more of a retelling than some other actual retellings I've read

I go into Little Women adaptations with an open mind because I like seeing what modern authors can bring to the story. Belittled Women was not it for me.
The character development was flat. So much of the story is spent watching Jo's mom and sisters treat her poorly. The characters feel more like caricatures than real, relatable people. The pacing was off, too slow in some places and too rushed in others.
I love Little Women and exploring retellings and modern adaptations, but this one just wasn't for me.

I had mixed feelings about the main character Jo. As the oldest of 5 girls, I never treated my sisters the way these girls treat each other, Jo especially. However, there were redeeming qualities that made me tear up by the end.

Full of back and forth banter, complicated family dynamics and fighting to find yourself, this was a hilarious and romantic YA contemporary.
I struggled with pacing in the middle of the story, but the dialogue and slow burn romance more than make up for a slightly slow middle.
Amanda Sellet is an auto-buy author for me!
