So far it's a pretty good story.
The action in this part of the story is done really well. You almost forget about it being a love story. The relationship builds over time so that when that peak moment happened the two main characters believe in each other and are willing to do whatever it is to keep each other safe and fighting for what they both really want. Marroc/Galin is fighting for his soul, his mate, and what he truly believes in even if he can't remember what it is. Ali is fighting to free her mind from their dark world and bring them back to the light.

Quick read
A fast paced story with interesting connections to Norse mythology. Excited to read the rest of the trilogy and anything CN Crawford writes.

Great storytelling as usual but I wish there was more heat and less dead things
As usual, the authors delivered a great and well researched storyline. I must say I absolutely was disgusted by the MMC with the while wicked undead soul eating thing. BUT kudos to the authors for skillfully manipulating my emotions so that I was a lot less antagonistic and more than a little in like with Marroc by the end of the book. I do wish the book was less dark though. So much times spent on the nasty dead places and stuff was a bit too much for me. Not my thing though I’m sure that would be a draw for others. I also would have like more heat and romance. Otherwise overall, an entertaining read if you can stomach the gloomy deathness of it.

medium-paced
Honestly I read this book thinking it would be spicy. I mean look at the cover! THERE WAS NO SPICE.
Writing was not great. Lots of sudden scene changes and it felt like she just didn't know how to actually make them get from one area to the next. All hand wavey.
Probably won't read book 2.
I'll be honest. If it was spicy literally everything would have gotten a pass. ALAS NO SPICE

Great story
Not too explicit despite the cover. No sex which is refreshing given these books always have so much of it.

Not the worst book I’ve read/listened to but it was a struggle to finish. Not invested enough to finish the trilogy unfortunately.
Took me forever to get through this one. Obviously there was some interest or I wouldn’t have kept up with it. There was a lot I didn’t really buy into, such as night elves being cursed to be trapped underground but somehow they can still come up? Galin/Marroc being trapped in the cell but somehow musters the strength to break out and then just ignore his curse ? Too convenient. Overall just a meh read.
Saw another review that said “This book was like child's play. I felt no emotional connection to any of the character, the plot which had them journeying to the land of the dead to find Loki's wand has no iota of enjoyment to deliver. The motive did not even ring true. The hate Ali had for Galin/High Elf was just told to us but we didn't actually see it or feel it. Then the ending where Marroc and Ali realize whats going on with the king was just so cringey. Also, we got to hear how she's an assassin, though she only told Marroc it felt like she told everyone because her inner dialogue always ran along the lines of her being an assassin. WE GET IT.”
And that sums it up perfectly

I loved all the Boston references in this book. Good storyline, great use of Nordic mythology. Characterization was bit thin. I would really have liked to get into the characters more by seeing more of their past. Marroc’s lack of history was logical, but we should have seen more of Ali’s to give her more depth.
