I really enjoyed this book! It's part memoir-ish and part guide on how to navigate situations related to being trans/trans rights. I appreciated the balance between hearing more about Schuyler and his journey/experiences while also getting great tips and scripts for how to navigate tough conversations and new situations. I also highly recommend listening to the audiobook, read by Schuyler, as him reading really made the reading/listening experience special!

Kind of a mix between a memoir and a book about advocating for and having conversations about trans rights because of how the author includes his own stories into the book. I thought it was interesting to learn from a trans man’s perspective because I haven’t read a lot of books like that although it was a bit limited sometimes because it was so much from his perspective that the parts about transition and what transitional care is available, I felt were not from a broader, transgender healthcare perspective. Definitely some good points about approaching conversations about bias and racism and transphobia and bigotry that I think could be applied to other identities, and I think are useful in many settings from the workplace to the classroom to even conversations with relatives. It was really useful for me to study on how to carry these conversations in a compassionate way, while also holding space for my own needs.

This book by a transgender man who works on research and as a trans advocate is well written and very helpful. I believe everyone should read this guide: cis readers will gain a better understanding of how to respect and support trans people; trans readers will find affirmation and empathy in these pages. Schuyler has provided an excellent and well-researched work that I'll be recommending.
