pairs well w/ 🍷: Beyond the Gender Binary by Alok V Menon. Menon's book was more of a pamphlet and geared toward queer youth, this one is longer and geared toward an adult audience of allies or potential allies.
I really enjoyed reading this book and learned a lot about talking to people who are learning about transness (from the ones who are just little kids and very open to the adults who are bringing in their transphobia).
I appreciated the mix of his own experience and his knowledge of the subject and the balance of that.

I did wonder about him getting called out for anti-Black racism bc it sounds like he figured out he was wrong and apologized. But then again it's from his perspective so idk and have yet to look it up.

I definitely will be recommending this book to Mom and other family members who need to work on their transphobia.

Got this to read and then send to my mom so she can try and understand more. I think it'll be perfect!!

Part memoir, part guide to respecting people's gender and sexuality. This was a quick read because Bailar's literary voice is captivating and because the subject matter itself was interesting.
