I don't know that I have anything new to add about this classic book. I love the writing, the characterizations, the nostalgia and sense of loss. It is about faith, the Catholic faith in specific, and the consolation it can bring to those who suffer.

‘Brideshead Revisited’ by Evelyn Waugh. I actually lent this book to a friend first before reading it myself and she said it was good so I thought it was time to finally delve into it. I actually thoroughly enjoyed this novel- and in fact it sort of felt like two novels wholly separate (though of course that is the beauty of it, because in many clever ways the two halves are similar and intertwined- all leading back to brideshead, ‘revisited’). I can’t quite put my finger on it but I was left wanting something a little more- which means that my rating is- 4.5/5 stars. I can defo see how it influenced Donna Tartt’s ‘The Secret History’. (finished 9:59pm on the train back from london with the parents- saw clueless the musical with mummy and went to the ivy for dinner with her and dad- lots of champagne has been had but wonderful evening and lovely to end it with a novel finished!)
