this was an okay read, kept me entertained most of the time, but it could've been so much more. i was also kind of disappointed that there wasn't a appearance or even a mention of lira and elian :(

one thing i know for sure is that alexandra christo knows how to write men

I love, love, love this book!! The witty banter, the adventure, the subtle found family is amazing. The world building is interesting and I would have loved to have learned more. My one big complaint ****spoiler**** is Micah. I loved the character but he felt very much thrown to the side. No character development at all (now that I'm looking at it, that might have been foreshadowing). Just the dramatic voice of reason sidekick. So his death felt very lackluster, like why have him there in the first place, if you were just going to kill him off? His death also felt very last minute, thrown in there for the dramatics. Would have loved a story where they all survive. I just don't feel his death added much to the story.

This was a very easy and quick read. I finished it in two days. It was really fast-paced and a little too rushed at some points. I really liked the characters but some of them could have used a bit of a bigger backstory and character development. The book was quite action filled which made it easy to keep on reading and it didn't have the time to get boring. I enjoyed that it was a standalone fantasy book as that's just what I needed right now. ❤️
Overall it was an 'okay' read but still a bit underwhelming and too predictable 🙈
