That was hilariously bad. But that said, why do I feel like I want to read the second book?

To be generous, this felt like a first draft of a novel from someone who read just enough Irish mythology to have a loose grasp of the subject matter. The characters were pretty one-dimensional and behaved like caricatures of fairy mythology OR acted like pod people with weird smiles during tense moments. Though the plot evolved more thoroughly than I first expected, there were still gaps that left me disgruntled with the high praise this duology has received on BookTok (why do I keep trusting BookTok?)

That said, there was something oddly compelling about the story. Like, it was kinda hot garbage but I wanted to know what happened next? Ugh. Am I really gonna drop another Audible credit on this? … shit, maybe.

I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, I did enjoy moments of it. On the other hand, the pacing was odd. It felt like for the first half of the book nothing happened and then in the second half everything goes off. I don’t know, it was entertaining and I will probably read the rest of the series.

I have complicated feelings about this one as the characters make and also break the book. The devotion of our main character towards the prince was pretty annoying and stupid in the first half of the book, then the prince does a 180 in personality and he's more likeable so it makes sense that y'know, they can have an actual relationship. After that it's pretty cool.
The writing of this book was bit hard to get through as it felt like I'm reading someone's dream state, and the paragraphing was....not great at all.
