This was good. This took me so long due to the dip in dip out nature of the book. If you are looking for a different take of queen elizabeth II you will be mistaken as there is quite a lot of repeated information that has appeared in other media about the queen but I still think worth read

Very highly suggest listening to this as an audiobook. The reader is excellent doing different accents and voices.
This is not so much a biography of the Queen but more of a collection of observations from people around the Queen. I didn't know everyone who was quoted, but that didn't put me at a disadvantage.
Royal biographies are always a bit speculative because the royal usually can't speak directly. This book avoids that problem by not presenting a story as fact.

5 stars for regular corgi mentions- even an ENTIRE CHAPTER about the dogs. But seriously, I have an obsession with terrible people - the British Royal Family and the Vatican in particular - and really enjoyed this book. Craig Brown does an amazing job connecting the queen's life with the lives of many non-royal people, as well as historic events and figures. A fun and informative read.

I was unaware that this author was the one that did 99 Glimpses of Princess Margaret, which I HATED at the time, because I was looking for a straight biography. When I realized that this book about the late Queen Elizabeth II would be in the same vein, I tried to have an open mind.
It’s hard to describe the book, other than to say it’s a combination of some well and lesser-known stories about the queen and her family, as well as pop culture references and stories that are queen-adjacent. As someone who has read and listened to so many of the same stories about the late monarch, this was decidedly refreshing. Unconventional is definitely the name of the game here, and I for one, enjoyed it.
I thought the tag-team narration by the author and Harriet Walter made this a quick and easy listen that also enhanced the words I would have seen on the page.
