Totally forgot as to how amazing this book is.
Took it in a library of hot and dusty summer Volgograd back in 1999 and probably swallowed it in one day.
Still remember my goosebumps from description of the cavemen everyday life fighting for survival, where the fire is being kept generationally , where neighbouring tribe is watching your every move to attack you in the night. Where every shelter could become an ultimate death while facing sabretooth tiger or cave bear and who cares the book is not scientifically accurate by todays 'standards?
It is an ultimate ode to human dexterity and will to live. Something we know is always relevant.

I remember reading this to death when I was much younger, having seen ads and read features on the movie. It sounded intriguing to me... but 30+ years later I still haven't seen it. Anyway, this is the story of Naoh who sets out to restore fire to his tribe after it is extinguished in a raid by a rival group. Adventures ensue, travelogues of the prehistoric world are enacted and the numinous is hinted at. It has a rather shaky beginning to the quest after a strong opening scene but the quest itself is rather gripping, especially the journey home. For a slim volume it packs quite a lot of adventure in.

I happened to stumble upon this in my bookstore and thought I'd give it a shot since it seemed up my alley - I'm trying to read as many books about human pre-history as I can. It's not a well-written book but it is entertaining, and I enjoyed the lush descriptions of flora and fauna. You'd probably like it if you love Edgar Rice Burroughs. It's a classic hero's journey story and not a lot more than that. Still, a fun little book. Doesn't look like it's easy to get your hands on, unfortunately. I wish they'd do a reprint with a new (better) translation.
