This was so trope-heavy that I could barely read it. I honestly forced myself through.

Quentin as a character was every posh british stereotype you could ever imagine and honestly he annoyed the shit out of me.

The plot had some merit, hence the 2 stars, but honestly even that wasn't so great. Magic is cool though.

The biggest praise I can give this book is that I enjoyed it more than I've enjoyed some published books. Nonetheless I still had some issues.
The biggest was a grammar issue that could be forgiven for the self-published nature of the work, being that Goodness/God was replaced with Goddess, which both didn't make sense and the other two were used in dialogue areas. It was very distracting.
In addition I felt the mum was under developed (too much mystery I guess) and Quinten was a little unlikable at points. It felt like his use of calling people commoners would be a point of conflict between him and Lawrence but it never panned out.
Otherwise I did enjoy this book a good deal. I think the intersection of magic and trauma was great and reminded me of Klaus in Umbrella Academy. Lawrence himself is a very engaging protagonist, and some of the romantic-tension scenes were incredibly well crafted (the hairstyling scene 😳)
It was a book I began enjoying more as I got to know the characters, and it did make me smile, blush and laugh.

This is an ARC I've picked up at least twice in the past but couldn't quite get into it. But this time around I was determined and I was pleased to realise that this was another delightful surprise in the book/ARC department. I requested this one because I loved the cover, title and description but the start of the book was a lot darker than I thought it was going to be, especially when Laurence almost dies of a drug overdose and when he's recovered, he's being hounded by an ex-boyfriend who can't take the word 'no' for an answer.

But I ended up really enjoying this book. I loved the growing relationship between Laurence and Quention, how their paths crossed and how they became friends even while the attraction was simmering behind them. Laurence's mother was delightful and even his ex-boyfriend provided interesting conflict. Jack is a wonderfully creepy antagonist and I really loved learning about how he came into Laurence's life and how they got rid of him now.

The plot was interesting and I was rooting for Laurence and Quention all the way through. I loved the reveal of their powers and what it meant between them, as well as how they reconciled each other's secrets and powers with their own. The romance is a slow-build one and I was invested completely by the end.

Definitely a series I would continue with, though the start was a little dramatic for me.

4.5 stars!

Not my cup of tea. Even if the book it's well written it failed to deliver what was promised by the blurb and didn't keep my attention.

Many thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I didn't like this.
The story intrigued me from the beginning, I loved the jumps between past present and future BUT I couldn't read from Quentin pov. I hated everything he said, I couldn't stop eye rolling and couldn't understand if he was serious half the time.
Bambi's pov was really fun and I loved it, I connected with him a lot and he is really what made me continue with this book.
The plot didn't interest me enough to care about it and the writing style was boring for me. Again, only Bambi kept me going.
