Lottie Carlyle isn't looking for love when she meets her new boss, Tyler Klein. Living in a beautiful cottage with her two adorable - sometimes - kids in an idyllic village in the Cotswolds, on good terms with her ex-husband and with friends all around, she's happy enough with her lot. But Tyler's perfect for Lottie and quickly she falls for him - and he for her. Unfortunately, there's a problem. For reasons that are totally unfair, Lottie's children HATE Tyler. When a rival for Lottie's affections comes on the scene in the shape of charmer Seb, the children adore him, and he's certainly a distraction. But he's not Tyler - and he's not even at all what he seems. Lottie's got a problem - but thanks, in classic Jill Mansell style, to a tobogganing accident and a delicious series of mix-ups, all will be revealed and true love will find a way.

"Lovely romantic story... man likes woman, woman likes man, yet her children stops them from being together, all until a tragedy. Such a sweet ending, with a twist. Had me smiling from the very first chapter. Great read, especially if you're a hopeless romantic. "

Cliched in parts, brilliant in others, pedestrian in the rest.

I really enjoyed this book from Jill Mansell. It didn't take long to read at all. The characters were well written and developed. Characters you loved and hated! If anything, my only negative would be that the problems in the story seemed to be solved within the last chapter. However, a great book highly recommended to chick lit readers.

I am a fan of Jill Mansell, though this was not a stand out. Slow to start, picked up in the second half but not my favourite of hers. Never the less, an enjoyable chick lit to enjoy when you need some light hearted romance!

My first taste of Jill Mansell! 'Chit lit' is not my usual genre but this book has completely changed my opinion. From the first page I fell in love with Lotties spirit & Tylers charm.

I have eagerly been out and purchased 'rumour has it' and 'head over heels' and can't wait to get stuck in!

The Plot: Boy meets girl, boy is rejected by girl's offspring, boy and girl move on. Jill Mansell's Making Your Mind Up has quite a few bumps on the road to happily-ever-after...

The Characters: I quite enjoyed Lottie Carlyle's sense of humor and particular brand of practicality, even as her waffling drove me a little batty. She's funny, just-enough sassy, and adorably protective of her children (who're quite capable of totally bratty behavior). Lottie is such a people person, she gets along with everyone - including her ex-husband, and his girlfriend. Then she meets Tyler, her new boss. And she doesn't quite know what to do when her children instantly dislike him.

Tyler Klein is instantly taken with Lottie, but he's not quite as enamored with her children. Or rather, he's not quite sure what to do with them. Or how to talk to them. Or what to bribe them with. All in all, he's not quite sure about children in general. Pretty big bump in the road, that...

The Story: Making Your Mind Up is an apt title for this quirky love story. There's drama, of course, but overall this is a pretty light read, filled with Mansell's sense of humor. I didn't love it as much as some of her other titles, but this is still one to add to your summer reading.
