By the time I was half way through this book I was getting annoyed by how little was happening. I can see how it helps the ending but it made me feel like I was slogging through. I liked the overall story enough but I found myself feeling a bit of whiplash at points where many unrelated things seemed to be happening. 
I would recommend this book even with those drawbacks because I found it a unique story. Maybe get the audiobook so you can read it while also doing other things.

house of salt and sorrows was such a sinister, magical journey. each chapter kept me on my toes and made me cringe n tear up from how perfectly it was written! i actually felt like i was 'reading' a scene from a horror movie it was that gOOD!!

This story had a lot of potential but kinda fell short with pacing and execution. Things were introduced at weird times in the story and the first 3rd was incredibly slow. I think that Erin A. Craig had lots of good ideas but didn't really know where she was going until halfway through the book. 

One of the big problems is that Annaleigh is not a very active participant in the story. Pretty much everything would have happened whether or not she was present which made it hard to engage with her.

I did enjoy this book but I think it could have been so much more.

House of Salt and Sorrows was an interesting read, if a little slow paced. It was a little bit more in the horror genre than I expected and I found the ending to be honestly a little confusing. The various deaths also didn’t make me sad at all. The only one I really cared about was Verity. And the romance was extremely underdeveloped. It didn’t feel earned at all. The saving grace for me was how intrigued I was by the plot. I really wanted to know what was going on, and the horror sequences were engaging. I enjoyed the read, even if I didn’t like the characters very much.
