This has to be one of the most hectic and confusing books I’ve read. The Seeker reminds me of Realmbreaker and not in a good way. I found that there was a lot of characters with their own stories that made it hard to keep track of and the original summary I feel got lost in the book itself.

Bad news first. I did not care about the stakes of the main conflict. I just did not. I would have been perfectly happy for the lot of the MacGuffins to get lost so the main characters could live on a farm in the middle of nowhere. The romance was blunt and graceless. The plot twists and broader contexts were mainly implied or not discussed at all.

Good news: I did care about the main four characters. John dropped off my list about halfway through, and Quin lost that special spark I so loved at the start of the book, so I ended up clinging mainly to Shinobu and Maud. But those two had fantastic character growth, so that was cool.

Basically, the characters were good, but it was difficult to get through the way their stories were or (mainly) were not told.

Yeah, so, this is over (DNF at 50%). Plot is just too complicated and weird for me. I hear it gets better after this point in the book, but life is short, man.

I saw an ad for this book that described it as Game of Thrones for teens, which made me want to read it immediately. However, it is NOTHING like Game of Thrones! I don't even know how to describe it...the first few pages makes it feel old, ancient oaths and all that, but then high tech weaponry and aircars are suddenly thrown in and it's kind of jolting. So it takes place in a futuristic Scotland and Hong Kong. I liked it enough to keep wanting to read to the end, but I didn't find any of the characters all that likeable and the love triangle was so cliche and tiresome. Of course it's a trilogy but I don't know if I'll be picking up #2 or not.

Not that bad but I found I could put it down. That being said, I will probably finish the trilogy.

I was so excited about this book when I first got approved for it on Netgalley, but it was actually quite a disappointment. Most of the time I had no clue what was going on. I see this book as appealing to some and confusing to others. If you are interested in this book and happen to see my review, do not let that discourage you from attempting to read this book. You may find yourself falling in love with it or you might find yourself hating it.

I would rate this book more of a 2.5! I thought the story was just kinda boring for about half the book. I actually started getting interesting though in the end. I didn't pile the characters much in the beginning, but I learned to like the two main ones. My favorite character was actually Maud the Dread and I thought their story was something o really enjoyed reading.
