I read the first three volumes. It was a decent read. I'm not familiar with the novel it was based on but it looks like that author took the stance that there was no record of Musashi at the Battle of Sekigahara because he was on the losing side. That may well have been the case but that was a neat explanation by historians to explain away the lack of any evidence of what Musashi was doing at the time.

Musashi is considered to be a kengo, or "sword saint", someone with such skilled swordsmanship that they achieve a kind of wisdom and holiness. Of course, killing scores of people as a marker of saintliness would seem to be a contradiction but no more so than with Joan of Arc.

The artwork is quite good but when it comes to samurai manga, the GOAT with art and writing is still Lone Wolf and Cub.

Vagabond is outstanding—totally bizarre, and fantastic! There are tons of plot twists, AMAZING ART, wonderful fight scenes, bloody deaths, and lots of great love scenes. Every time I thought this would turn out like some cliched Ronin/Samurai story it totally took me somewhere else. I kept trying to predict what would happen and ended up wrong every time. It’s a great adventure, for sure. Check it out if you get a chance. It reads right to left because it is originally a Japanese book, so it takes some getting used to, but it’s not bad after a few pages of it.

Takezō is the goat and Matahachi is a lil freak. Art style got to be the prettiest shit I've seen in a while can see how this is still ongoing and loved by so many fans.
