Maomao is a genius. I love how her skills are coming into fruition and benefiting the Inner Court. The hairpin and item exchanging scenes are so charming like girl, everybody admires you. Onto volume 3!!

This volume was great. I loved that 3/4 of the volume focused on one specific event (the Garden Party) so it didn't feel super rushed and was great for seeing more interaction between so many different elements: the four consorts, the various ladies-in-waiting, the emperor and his officials, etc. I also love that we're slowly starting to get into some of the darker subjects
(like why Maomao has her freckles and the realities that Consort Lishu and the Empress Dowager had to face as child brides essentially)
. Looking forward to the next volume!

The second volume and I had fun! While there were moments that I enjoyed more in the anime over the manga, there were moments that I loved more here. Like how she handled that lady-in-waiting, it was WAY more threatening in the manga. Or the minister who was dumb enough to eat the soup. I loved the banquet and all that happened there (so many hair pins for MaoMao) + some good mystery + exciting moments. I just love how Lady Gyokuyou took her under her wing and how the lady-in-waiting really care for MaoMao. Plus, the art is really pretty! Love the facial expressions.
I am still not sure about Jinshi, he is a bit too eww for me and should really get the fucking hint that NO is no. MaoMao isn't a toy. She isn't a new thing for you to fawn over. She clearly has no interest. She is clearly disgusted. Leave it.
