Like seemingly all Ishiguro's, the novel deals heavily with memory and time past; this one in particular, however, deals with childhood memories, a distinctly more emotional topic, and one that hasn't been touched upon in his other novels that I have read. The sci-fi premise is admittedly not the most intriguing and fails to fulfill the expected twist in certain areas, but its broader implications cover the themes Ishiguro was going for nonetheless. While this totally feels like his attempt at a more digestible, widely appealing novel, he is a master of crafting human characters whose every action resonates, thus, it's still definitely worth a read.

An interesting idea that was quietly revealed throughout the book, but unfortunately that's all it was for me. The book was too quiet and the characters too one-dimensional leaving me bored. I wanted more.

I don’t know what it is about this book, there’s just something so hauntingly beautiful about the writing that makes reading this worth it.

It’s one of those books, for me at least, that was okay in the moment, but took a minute to sink in after I finished it.
