Blargh DNF. This book gave me ADD. Life’s too short.

I’d like to give this book two different ratings…as a book I read and my opinion of it it’s a 3/3.5. But as a book club book or a discussion book it’s a 5. In terms of things to discuss this is a thought provoking book that taps into morality, relationships, life’s purpose - so much to discuss. But as a reader, I was not all that moved or drawn in by the characters or the way the story was laid out. I also felt some things were not fleshed out enough or were too subtle. Worth a read if you have someone to discuss with!

it’s like witnessing a car crash and not being able to stop it – uncomfortable and tragic and you can’t look away. the characters are so palpable and come to life so beautifully. i’m a sucker for coming of age stories and this, mixed with an eerie dystopian tone and told by a conversational narrator, made for an unforgettable page-turner of a novel.

a really interesting dystopian novel because it was so insular in the characters head. ishiguru presents this dark concept of the world but shrinks down the telling of it to one uninformed but curious player in it. really well written, calming and mysterious and sad.

It took me a while to get into this book, but by the end I was in tears.
An incredibly thought provoking story.
