Nostalgic.

A great coming-of-age comic that my daughter brought home from school. The content is perfect and age appropriate for a reader who you’d like to see getting hooked on chapter books. The story is simple and straightforward with surprisingly poignant aspects of family drama and nostalgia. The illustrations were wonderful and the author’s obsession with strip comics reminds me of myself as a child.

Book 2 of 2024, and this is one my 10yo has been asking me to read and I kept putting off. I probably shouldn't have, because this story of siblings and family and relationships was really well done and frankly may be giving me a glimpse into how Abigail is feeling right now. This middle-grade graphic novel is highly recommended by my 5th grader, and was also an enjoyable read for this mom. 4⭐

A fun, humorous, and entertaining read with fantastic visuals and illustrations!

My Thoughts:

1. Since I have a young sister myself, I can totally relate to Raina's relationship with Amara. The story is so relatable for anyone who has a younger sibling. It's funny how the author is able to depict sibling relationships so accurately.

2. It was definitely a nice touch for the author to incorporate flashbacks into the story line. It added so much depth and personality to the characters.

3. Another thing I noticed was how well the author was able to sneak in subtle life lessons throughout the story.

4. My only complaint was that the ending felt too abrupt. I was sad that the book ended so quickly; it was over before I knew it! Which leads me to believe that there might be another book since there are still many unanswered questions.

5. Overall, I would highly recommend this for anyone and everyone looking for a quick and funny read!

Great sequel to Smile!

Haha, I finished this book so quickly.

So, Sisters. A lovely book based on, once again, Raina's very interesting life. I really like the alternations between the flashbacks, and the road trip, and they flowed together quite nicely.

Overall, I think the art was funny and great, and look forward to seeing more of her life!

I loved the alternating time periods- from early childhood to 'present day.' Also a great introduction to memoirs- choosing one event out of life that is meaningful, and expanding as to why.
I'm really starting to get into graphic novels!!

I cannot imagine having to go on a week long trip  in a van with no AC. My siblings and I travel about 8 hours to get to our grandparents but any more than that and is too much. This was definitely relatable especially considering that I too have a younger brother and sister, I like to getting to know more about the author's relationships with her siblings and thought this was a sweet story about growing up and growing closer to your siblings.

Happy Reading my Friends.
