Smile was a huge success, and there’s no question that readers will be clamoring for this one, too. A must-purchase for every library that serves tweens.

This is one of the hottest books at my school this year among 4th and 5th graders and I'm glad I finally read it. A graphic novel memoir focused on the challenging relationship between the author, Raina, and her sister, Amara, as kids. Told through flashbacks and a particular summer road trip, the story captures the frustration, ridiculousness, and love of sisterhood and family.
I read the first book, Smile, years ago and don't remember it well (except that teeth-knocked-out scene that still haunts me), so I'd say this holds up well as a stand-alone. Fun to see my former coworker in the acknowledgments!

While I enjoyed [b:Drama|13436373|Drama|Raina Telgemeier|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1330157763s/13436373.jpg|18940474], after Sisters, I can truly say I'm a Telgemeier fan! Her artwork is lovely, colored with an appealing palette. The characters' expressions perfectly display the text and the story. I also liked how Telgemeier handled flashbacks by slightly muting the colors on those scenes that occurred in the past.
The story is sweet, touching, realistic, and funny. Anyone with a sibling, particularly if you are sisters, will completely understand the dynamics at play here. The sisters must endure the trials and tribulations of a road trip (with mom and little brother) to a family reunion.
