Powerful, moving, heartbreaking, affirming. Chanel speaks to the deepest part of myself and says, “It’s okay. You are enough.”

This was an incredible book. Honestly, I expected basically a retelling of the trial from her perspective. But this book was so much more. It was a memoir, a recounting, an exploration into the ways the justice system fails victims, it was beautiful, inspiring, challenging, heart wrenching. It explored the many facets of living in a patriarchal society through the lens of Chanel’s experience, in and beyond the assault. I would recommend it to everyone. It was so beautiful to hear in the author’s voice, in her words, through her eyes.

This book is inspiring, heart-wrenching and heartwarming, enlightening, strong, emotional, and NECESSARY. This book should be mandatory in schools/ universities. I can not begin to understand what Chanel went through, but there were many parts I identified as a woman. By telling going through what she did, letting her statement get published (how I “discovered” her), and then publishing this book, she has been a lighthouse to many people around the world—myself included. Thank you Chanel. I know your name.
