I loved this edition to the series.

Sometimes authors fall into the trap of just replicating the same story multiple times over. However, this differed from the previous stories as there was a lot of (understandable) dislike from Britney to Alistair.

I think Britney was very genuine in her portrayal of a female scarred by a male. While the undertones may have been a little iffy, the two characters coming together was a good journey and the drama of the murders etc was a good additional layer to add to the plot.

The next book was set up niceley at the end of this story

I read this on Kindle Vella.

Britney made her first appearance in Sinful Bargain where she was rescued by Alistair and brought back to the Keep by him. Having been sold by her father to sex traffickers she has a real distrust of men which is why she doesn't like Alistair and the Keep much.

For Alistair's part, he lets Britney set the pace in their relationship, which is pretty much her avoiding him until she goes to him for help to get her little sister.

I really liked Alistair, he's probably one of the nicer heroes in the series (him and Trent, from book 3, are probably tied), he was super sweet to Brit pretty much does whatever she needed him to do for her to open up and trust him.

Only minor complaint about this book is Alistair is still a bit of a mystery. The authors didn't really elaborate what he did before the outbreak other than women really liked him and he was the kind of guy you could take home to mom. Most the other heroes get some minor background info from either being former military or convicts. It's possible I missed it while reading, but I don't recall them ever mentioning what he did before (I'll just assume military since most the other guys are military).

overall, good book and I enjoyed it. Definitely tied with book 3 in the series.
