A ton of fun. Overall maybe closer to a 4/5 but I liked the corny ending so much I just had to give it that last star. Buddy comedy + Sci-Fi never fails to disappoint.

One of the easiest 5 stars I've ever given!! This book was the Goodreads Choice winner for Sci-Fi for 2021 and it absolutely deserved it. I laughed out loud, I teared up, I whooped for joy (on the inside.) This book ran me through my emotional paces and it was an extremely enjoyable read. Have you ever read a sci-fi book that seems to lean on a lot of made-up, implausible scientific mechanics? This book is not like that. Andy Weir's dedication to real, tangible astrophysics and mathematical calculations make it so easy to immerse yourself in this story. The protagonist, Ryland, walks you through all the math right as he's doing it -- and his quirky, gregarious attitude makes him so lovable. The relationship he develops with the second protagonist is so heartwarming and genuine. Honestly, if you are a lover of sci-fi, if you're averse to sci-fi, if you've been wronged by sci-fi novels in the past, this book is a breath of fresh air and I highly recommend it.
