I loved the history lesson in the book. Beautifully written with exquisite language. The story is really about mistakes, regrets and righting your mistakes. My favorite theme of the story is that it is never too late to start again.

I’m not in raptures with this title but I did enjoy reading it. From the description on my copy I expected something more dynamic and tense, but it's a subtle novel, introspective and blurred around the edges.

I have to say I find it curious that the blurbs and quotes on the cover of mine emphasize the suspense, mystery, and even the historical fiction aspects of the story. If your copy is similar, know that this is neither [b:Wolf Hall|7826803|Wolf Hall|Hilary Mantel|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1402448033l/7826803._SX50_.jpg|6278354] nor [b:Maestra|27065431|Maestra (Maestra #1)|L.S. Jumping between characters is the hook of the premise and I would say each makes the most of their page count but by design we are more checking in with these characters than settling in with them. On the whole, the characters all seem rather pensive but they do each create an impression: Sara of grief, Marty of vague amiability, and Ellie of restraint. Marty spends the novel just skirting the edges of being an obnoxious stereotype (personable but erratic New York elite) but I ended up liking him and his chapters overall.
